The following was originally written on LovingOnMe.com. “Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.” Albert Einstein
This month’s blog was inspired by the recent passing of yet another friend, James Hickson Lee, whose life ended way to soon for the comprehension and understanding of those of us he left behind.

It made me stop and think about my own life. Despite the sad occasion, I rejoiced at the life of my friend and the outpouring of love, because his life served as a reminder to me of the kind of life that I not only want to live, but be remembered for. I want to live a memorable life.

The following was originally written on LovingOnMe.com. This month’s blog was inspired by a woman’s guest appearance on the talk show “The Real.” Her personal story about how watching the show helped her to push through after losing her 21-year-old son was emotionally inspiring. But what really spoke to my heart were two simple key words that she said, “push through.”

Those words resonated with me because for the past two years, I feel like I have done nothing but continuously push through in all areas of my life. However, those two words are not just unique to me. I feel like that is something that all of us as women do. I feel as though we are genetically wired to push through the circumstances life throws at us – whatever, whenever and wherever. And we do it successfully. In fact, we have become masters at pushing through.

If we’re honest, most of us think of grit as a nuisance. Its loose abrasive particles of dirt, gravel or sand mess and dirty things up, but that’s only one definition.

Grit also means to have courage, resolve, strength of character, moral fiber, determination, perseverance and endurance. Aha! Now you see where I’m going.
Without a doubt – I have grit!

But wait, you say, the holidays are over. It’s a brand new year. How could you be doing nothing? You should be working on new resolutions, getting a jump on things, running at breakneck speed, hustling and bustling about for no sane reason other than because that is what American culture has wired us to believe we should be doing.

Be honest, you know what I’m talking about. We’ve all been there at some point or another. We hide behind the mask each and every time we deny our core character and dim the light on the unique person we were created to be.
